Tomaž Grom – double bass, voice
»Music that is created and received in the same space
and time, actually enriching the delicacy of the moment, the risk of
irreversibility and, last but not least, the collective creation. Improvisation
is, as a rule, a creation that arises from collaboration between the audience
and the musician, with the widespread belief that music is only and finally
realized through the listener's contextualization. Though not completely
deliberate, the new album by artist, contra bassist and electrophonic (as well
as promoter and publisher) Tomaž Grom,
is also very clearly placed in this set of reflections. Grom appears in a wide
variety of musical situations, from theatre to site-specific collective
improvisations, so that a simple recording of his solo performance may offer
somewhat too little insight. However, the forthcoming album, entitled Sam, za ...,
avoids this; in fact, only with some reservation can it be placed within the
framework of non-idiomatic improvisation, which is otherwise Grom's modus
operandi in live performance. In appearance, it belongs to this framework,
however, listening more closely reveals the complete opposite – the composed
idiom of Tomaž Grom.« (Zorman 2014)
